What she doesn't count on is the intense attraction that turns every heated run-in they have into a wildly erotic competition. EXCERPT-

The parking lot was almost empty as Blake left the field-house after the team’s win. He strolled toward his truck, keys dangling from one hand and his gym bag in the other. As he approached, he noticed a figure leaning against the driver’s side door.
A petite, luscious figure in a pair of tight jeans and a Blanco Valley High hooded-sweatshirt.
Just the sight of Annabelle turned his body on high alert. Over the past week, Blake hadn’t been able to get their kiss out of his mind. Not only the feel of her lips pressed to his, but how perfectly her body fit with his. Each one of her curves had molded seamlessly against his harder and bigger one, as though they were two pieces of the same puzzle.
And look at him with all the lame metaphors.
Blake approached the truck, twirling his keys around in his hand. Because if he didn’t keep them busy, he’d yank her away from the door and kiss her again.
“Hi,” she greeted when he stopped in front of her.
He tossed his bag in the bed of the truck. “Hey,” he replied. “You’re here awfully late.”
“I wanted to hang around and congratulate some of the kids. You guys played a good game tonight,” she told him.
“Thanks.” And why did her praise have to mean so much to him? The parents and the school district was what mattered. Not some hazel-eyed opinionated goddess.
Annabelle scraped the toe of her tennis shoe along the ground. And for some reason Blake found the movement endearing.
He was turning into such a pussy.
“Blake,” she said on a sigh. She pushed away from the truck and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “I’m sorry,” she told him. “About before.”
“For what?” he wanted to know. “The kiss or the apology?”
She blinked at him and inhaled a deep breath. “For the way I acted afterward,” she clarified. “To be completely honest, I’m not sorry for kissing you. I thought that maybe…” Her words trailed off. “I thought I had taken you off guard and acted inappropriately. I didn’t want you to think I was being too forward. The sorry just kind of popped out before I could think.”
Blake pocketed his keys. “You did take me off guard. But that didn’t mean I didn’t like it as much as you did. I think we both know I did.” She’d been pressed up against him hard enough to feel the evidence between his thighs.
As though sensing his thoughts, Annabelle’s gaze dropped down, lingering long enough to elicit a reaction. “I think it’s safe to say we both liked it. A lot,” she added. “Probably too much, actually.”
“And how much is too much?” Because that was part of his confusion.
One of her shoulders moved. “To be honest, I’m not sure. I’m still trying to figure that one out.”
“Maybe we should try it again, just to see,” he suggested.

Release Day Blitz- The Debt by Karina Halle

the debt 0 days (1)

The Debt AMAZON

Summary-

Her life changed in an instant.
And he's the only one who could have prevented it.

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Pact and The Lie comes a new standalone contemporary romance about those McGregor men.

Jessica Charles shouldn't have even been in London when the unthinkable happened.

She should have been back at home in Edinburgh, perhaps hanging with her boyfriend, having drinks with her sister or doing yoga with her group of friends. She should have been going on in her normal, dependable life as always.

But on that fateful day in August, when a mentally-ill ex-soldier opened fire in public, Jessica's world changed forever.

Now single and crippled from the gunshot wounds, Jessica finds herself scared and alone, losing faith in herself and humanity with each agonizing moment that passes.

That is until a stranger enters her life. A stranger who makes her live again.

Keir McGregor has always been the strong, silent type. Throw in tall, dark, and handsome and you've got pretty much the perfect Scotsman.

Except Keir is anything but perfect. He's got a past he's running away from and a guilty conscience he can't seem to shed. But the more time he spends with Jessica, the more he falls in love with her.

And the more his secret threatens to tear them apart.

He may have been a stranger to her.

But she’s never been a stranger to him.

EXCERPT:

“You’re not going anywhere,” he says. “Sit. I’ll get you another drink.”

“It’s getting late,” I say feebly but I sit down anyway, my leg giving a protest of pain.

“You need something for that?” he says, noticing my wince.

“The scotch will do fine,” I tell him quickly, not wanting him to make a fuss. “But really, I should go.”

“Why?” he asks from the kitchen. I hear the top pop off the bottle, the slosh of liquid in the glass. “Where do you have to be?”

I have to think about that for a moment. He comes over and holds out the glass. “I won’t keep you here if you don’t want to be here. But if you do want to be here, you don’t need to make any excuses.”

I take the glass from him, holding it delicately in my fingers. He stands over me, a massive wall, waiting for some kind of response.

“I just…” I begin. “I…” I take a sip for bravery. Swallow. “I’m not very good at this.”

“Good at what?”

“At…this. Being with a man.”

When he doesn’t say anything to that, I look up at him. He’s got a peculiar smile on his face, his brows raised. “You call this being with a man?”

I clear my throat, feeling my cheeks grow hot. “I mean. I’ve told you before –”

“Yes, how you don’t do relationships, how you don’t do sex.”

“I never said I don’t do sex,” I remind him quickly.

His eyes never stop searching my face. “Then what is it? What are you afraid to say?”

I have the sudden urge to flee and I know it must show because he suddenly points at me and says, “Don’t you dare say you have to go again. I want you to go back to what you said, that you’re not good at this. What is this? Us? You and me? There’s nothing mystifying about you and me, Jessica. You know quite well how I feel.”

I stare at him in shock. I do? “How?”

He looks off with an air of impatience. “I invited you to dinner, you turned me down.”

“But then you said just as friends.”

“And I meant it. But there are different types of friends. It’s up to you to decide what kind we are.”

I put my drink down with a clunk. “Holy pressure.” And now it’s not just my face going hot but my entire body, flushed from head to toe.

“You’re on fire, little red,” he says, his gaze skirting over my limbs in such a hungry way I can almost feel them on my skin. “I have to say, I like this look on you. Hot and bothered.”

“Back with the innuendos again,” I comment but my voice is weak.

“No, no innuendos this time. You came looking for me tonight not because you wanted to confess but because you want something from me. What is it? What do you want from me? What do you think I can give you?”

Jesus. This is so utterly unnerving. His words slice right through me, his eyes still peeling under the layers, trying to get at something I’m not even sure of myself.

If I lie, he’ll know. I can only be honest with him.

“I want…” I take in a deep breath, my eyes breaking away. “I want…company.”

“Company?” He sounds surprised.

I nod. “That’s the truth. I’m lonely. And I’m afraid. And I’m tired of being both those things. I want to be with someone who makes me forget who I am. You make me feel fearless in a way I didn’t think possible.”

There. That’s the truth. Most of it. It hangs in the air, thickening the tension like flour to stock.

He sits down next to me, has a mouthful of Scotch. “Wow,” he says, running his hand over the beard on his jaw. “And here I was thinking you wanted my cock.”

I burst out laughing. So does he, a big wonderful bellow. The tension in the room eases up a notch.

“Sorry,” I tell him when I catch my breath. “I guess they can both mean the same thing.”

He sucks in his lip briefly, his eyes taking a lustful turn. “If you want it to.” We stare at each other for a few heavy beats. Then his focus trails back to my gaze and he says, “Why don’t you stay over?”

And there I have it. The chance to know what those full lips would feel like on mine, what his skin would taste like. I swallow hard.

Review-

For Better or Worse is the second book in Lauren Layne's Wedding Belle series. I have read both the novella and the book preceeding For Better or Worse and while they were not bad reads by any means they weren't great either. But For Better or Worse just completely blew me away. In a very very good way of course. It just seemed like all the links came together perfectly in this book and all in all For Better or Worse made for a very satisfying romance.

Let's start with our heroine Heather. Heather was a small town girl with big dreams before she moved to New York city. Heather is an assisstant wedding planner at the Wedding Belles with high hopes of becoming a proper Wedding Planner with the promotion if all goes well and she can handle her client. I loved Heather as a heroine. She was sweet and nice but she was also determined and hard working. Because she is this close to becoming a wedding planner she doesn't need any distractions especially in the form of her neighbour, Josh.

Josh Tanner is Heather's neighbour who is currently working with his band. He was a typical Wall Street guy until a few years ago when events in his life made him realize how short life really could be. Now he tries to live each day as if it were his last but still he can't seem to find any satisfaction or contentment in it. That is until Heather comes knocking at his door with her fiery temper and spirit. I loved Josh. He was scared of committment but the way he was with Heather was just amazing.

I loved the banter which we get to see from the first moment Heather and Josh meet. It is a Lauren Layne trademark and I couldn't be more satisfied with their conversations and the witty back and forth. There is no insta love between Josh and Heather which is always a plus but they definitely had a lot of chemistry. I liked how their friendship progressed and their feelings for each other became even deeper.

Another thing I loved about For Better or Worse was the bromance we get to see between Josh, Logan and Seth. The conversations between these three guys were hilarious. I also loved how the entire gang of Wedding Belles was together often with their better halves. The whole feeling of family really came through in this book. I don't think I need to say that this book is my favourite in the entire series. I think my excessive use of the word "loved" already gave it way. I can't wait to read Alexis and Logan's book which is next.
